Whot We're Doing

HONORING OUR 50 AND 75 YEAR MEMBERS

This Sunday, June 29, we honor our church family members who have had membership with the First Christian Church of Alliance for 50 and 75 years as of 2008.  This year we honor CHARLES CHAPMAN, who celebrates 75 years of membership this year.  (April 16, 1933)  What a distinguished  honor!   Even though Chuck now lives in Avon Lake, closer to his daughter and her family there, he still holds Alliance close in his heart, as we continue to claim Chuck as our own.  Congratulations, Chuck, as we celebrate this milestone with you!

This year, according to our records,  there is no one celebrating their 50 year membership.  If you believe YOU joined the Alliance congregation in 1933 or 1958, please call the church office, 330-823-6620, and we’ll check it out.  We certainly don’t want to miss any of our precious members who have reached this anniversary year.

  DID YOU KNOW?

In Shakespeare’s time, mattresses were secured on bed frames by ropes.  When you pulled on the ropes the mattress tightened, making the bed firmer to sleep on.  Hence the phrase……….  ”goodnight, sleep tight.”

WELCOME, HEATHER!             We rejoice in the church membership of Heather (Boyce) Mosby.  Heather became an “official” member of our church family last Sunday during the casual   service.  She has been worshiping with us regularly with her precious daughters, Kayla and Elizabeth, and she is an active member of the Livengood Class.  What a blessing Heather continues to be for First Christian!

NEW ADULT CLASS STARTS JUNE 22

All adults and older youth are invited to attend a  4- week class taught by our own Ivory Lyons.  “The History of the African-American Church” will begin on June 22 in Fellowship Hall at 10 A.M.   In his own unique teaching style, Ivory will enlighten us about the start of the AME (African Methodist Episcopal) Church; the first black Baptists on American soil; and the development of the African-American Christian movement.  We’ll also learn about African-American Disciples and the women who have influenced the growth of the   African-American Christian Church.

If this is your first class of Ivory’s to attend,  you’re in for a real treat.  His classes are sprinkled with humor, mixed with true insight and lots of wisdom.  No matter what subject he’s dealing with, Ivory’s classes are full of life and energy.  You will NOT be bored!
